MiniMegaCon Simulcast
It begins! Am waiting for the plane for Orlando to arrive here in Sunny (for now) Iowa. I'm using Allegiant Air in a sincere bid to never go through O'Hare again. I never ever check bags, but since I'm hauling the books this time, there's no choice. So I didn't want to double (or even square) the opportunities for misdirection or error. I'm taking the exclusive postcards in my bag, because We can always direct people to the website for books, but if we turn up without the promised freebie? That's a weekend in the bar.
Given the vagaries of Allegiant, I'm flying out tonight, even though the con is Sat/Sun. From CR you can only go up on Thurs and come back Sun. Fortunately, from DM it's Friday and Monday. So Carter covers Sunday and all's well. This is our first Megacon-related con visit, but it's already one of the nicest cons we've ever come into contact with. As opposed to our other Summer con experience, the staff were available, eager to help, and nice as could be. When they said "I'm sorry" it didn't sound like "Well, what did you expect?"
Anyway, banish bad thoughts of the past.
The rest of the year looks like Minnesota Fallcon (also very nice folks, we just haven't been for a few years) in October, and the Iowa Comic Book Club's con in Des Moines in November. At these two we'll have some more visible alien model kits, designed by our very own Will Grant in signature editions! Save yer pennies!
Looks like the flight will be full. Floridians returning, or Iowans on the prowl? Will report more as I find out.
